Not everyone has what it takes
To shake off life’s unfair breaks
Many buckle under the struggle
Of all the hurts we have to juggle
Happiness or sadness is a choice
How will you choose to use your voice?

This Earthen Hell
Regina Puckett I flew much too proud and high Through a sun-kissed, cloudless sky But then someone clipped my wings Thinking they were like the earthly kings They wanted to control my thoughts and me Wanting to stop me from ever being really free Those silly fools didn’t know me very well No one can me lock away forever on this earthen hell Because I can fly even though I have been clipped Through time and space I have often slipped Because I have what so many others do not I can fly through time and space with just a thought So try your very best to keep me earthbound I can laugh, cry, play and fly without making a sound The Afternoon Blaze
Regina Puckett The sky was aflame with towering clouds of fire Its warnings appeared to be a poetic, sunlit pyre Red and orange against billowing whites and grays Creating the late afternoon’s most dazzling blaze A Beautiful Work of Art
Regina Puckett Our lives are entwined and weaved Out of all of the things we have believed Each twisted knot or beautiful thread Is made from a tear or pain we have bled Our tapestries can be beautiful or not It just depends on each action or thought So grab the threads of your life and heart And go out and create a beautiful work of art Involve the Senses
In a perfect world, every author would pen books that totally grab your attention from start to finish, eyes glued to the page, you just can’t put it down! However, even among my favorite books and favorite authors, there are times that my mind wanders. I get distracted by a noise. My neighbor is baking a cake that smells delicious. I shift uncomfortably in my chair. I feel a draft and get up to close the window. Each of those little interruptions causes a reader to break – even momentarily – with the book. Every little distraction pulls the reader out of the story. With good books, the reader ignores (or may not even really notice) these blips. But the challenge to an author is to avoid these blips all together. One way to avoid giving the reader a chance to wonder what’s happening down the hall, or what kind of pizza to order for dinner, is to involve the reader’s senses. Get the reader to immerse herself totally in your book. Give descriptions (without going overboard) that show the reader how something feels, tastes, smells. Let them know what something sounds like or looks like. The “looks like” part is often there for characters and setting - the heroine’s long flowing red hair is described, or the elegant dining room with Victorian antiques is vividly presented to the reader. But why stop there? Why not get bring the reader further into the setting by mentioning the smell of lemon-scented furniture polish in the living room, or the sounds of car horns blaring during rush hour, or the feeling of OUCH when that sip of tea burned the roof of her mouth? If you invite your readers to feel what your characters feel, and taste what your characters taste, the readers will become part of the story. Regina Puckett Red Rover, Red Rover It’s a new day to start over Follow your heart and begin anew Discover what’s real and forever true Leave your baggage at the curve And go find the happiness you deserve Bled Out
Regina Puckett There are various shades of utter gloom From the murkiest gray of the sealed tomb To the blackness of God’s judgment day When countless men will want to pray But there’s nothing quite so lacking or void Than a soul which has been wholly destroyed Or a heart which has ripped and bled out Until there’s only a shell filled with doubt Leaving Shoes
Regina Puckett Dreams and hopes unfulfilled Moments mislaid and stilled Love misplaced and duly erased Hearts uncrossed and untraced Tears can’t undo this endless pain Nor will any words ever explain When you had the chance to choose You slipped on your leaving shoes Nothing Lasts
Regina Puckett Wedged between brothers Thundering and Lightning Is an empty space so immense and frightening That only thing to withstand its sadness Is Father Time and all of his ticks of madness So whenever you see the flashes and hear the blasts Hide and remember nothing ever really lasts Thrown Away
Regina Puckett Surrounded by broken wings and fading shades of gray Stood an angel who had been carelessly thrown away Surely, someone hadn’t recognized the fallen angel’s worth Or they never would have let him trip and fall to earth |
