Sara dashed around in a total panic trying to secure all of the windows and doors before nightfall. She ran without rhyme or reason from room to room slamming shut the numerous openings. The problem was most of the windows were broken and all of the doors were off of their hinges. Sara pulled the largest pieces of furniture in front of the doors, and she nailed planks across the windows. Unfortunately when darkness fell, most of the doors and windows were still unsecured, so she huddled behind an overstuffed sofa in the corner of the living room and waited for daylight. Sara must have waited in that chilled corner for hours when one of the doors screeched open. She tried holding her breath but it still sounded obscenely loud, so she covered her mouth with both hands and closed her eyes against the terror of the unknown. She felt more than heard the sofa being pulled away and just when she thought she would die from terror, a gentle voice called her name, “Sara, my lovely Sara. Your bubble bath is ready.” |
