  •
  • I fly away in my dreams and thoughts
  • Flying backward to my mind’s snapshots
  • It’s there I linger with my beloved recollections
  • I walk hand and hand with these lovely reflections
  • Until reality sharply taps me on the shoulder

  • And no one will stop me from flying to where my heart sings

Signposts and Cliffs

Some days I’m hard pressed to see hope or joy
I run tirelessly toward a goal only to discover it’s a decoy
Trusted signposts and markers have only led to the edge of a cliff
The things I once thought were solid are filled with cracks and a rift
Can anything be trusted or is it all just a ruthless, cruel sham
Where the lambs are led to the slaughter and no one really gives a damn

Real Friends
Friends never ask how or why
They never steal, cheat or lie
They’re just unselfish deeds
And unspoken cross-our-heart creeds
The rest of the world may have deserted you
But real friends stay faithful and true

Unfurled Wings

He stands alone in the hurried crowd

A sign raised high and a head held proud

He’s homeless, hungry and in need

But no one sees how much he bleeds

Rivers of anguish for what’s been lost

But being shunned has been his cost

If only someone had slowed their pace

They would have noticed his humble face

And beyond his dirty clothes and things

They might have seen his unfurled wings

"The Blank Page"
The blank page seduces and whispers my name
Knights, killers and lovers wait without shame
Eager for their moment at the next written quest
Where worlds will be formed and destinies wrest
Words spill forth and the exhilarating game is on
Battles are staged and fictional lines are drawn
After all of their performances have been cunningly played
Worlds will have been molded and new characters conveyed

Our Lives in Chimes

A storm stirred up by tiny butterfly wings

As a solitary angel slow dances and sings

Heartbeats measured in perfect poetry rhymes

As Father Time counts down our lives in chimes

Love makes its complete circle from heart to heart

As births, deaths, tears and laughter creates its own art

The Afternoon Blaze

The sky was aflame with towering clouds of fire
Its warnings appeared to be a poetic, sunlit pyre
Red and orange against billowing whites and grays
Creating the late afternoon’s most dazzling blaze

Drink Our Fill

Ever once awhile and again
I think back to where it begin
A tracing of a fingertip
A momentary trip and slip
Goosebumps and shivers
Moments sliced into slivers
A pause and then a glance
Wondering if there could be a chance
If only time could somehow stand still
While our hearts drank their fill

A Complex Void

It was a void of a complex and dense thought

A spider web of wind and aching drought

Suspended disbelief and blinding pain

A realization that life is filled with sun and rain

That Girl

Every now and then I flash back to a simpler time
Where pain was a stumped toe from a failed climb
Heartbreak was losing your best doll or toy train
Joy came from running and dancing out in the rain
Your best friend sat with you in the corner when caught
True love came from the heart and couldn’t be bought
But then I open my eyes and look around at this world
I think somewhere along the way I may have lost that girl

Slowly Drowning won 2nd place in the 3rd WSBR International Poetry Contest.

Instead

Strolling along these serene, grassy banks
I bow my head in wondrous, grateful thanks
For these peaceful, still-moments of grace
From life’s hard and rancorous footrace
Where hard knocks follow closely on my heels
And the devil slides up offering his cunning deals
I realize there are few who care about my pain
But walking here I appreciate this day’s gentle rain
It’s not that I don’t see the mud below the flowers
Or know that life is quickly ticking away my hours
I see the vultures circling in the clouds overhead
I just choose to focus on this moment’s beauty instead

My Ink-filled Spear

There are ugly trolls underneath life’s bridge

There are dangerous dragons over every ridge

So I’m girding my loins and lacing my battle gear

I’ll storm the shores with this ink-filled spear

I’ll right some terrible wrongs and win the day

With the words I write and the things I say

Heroes

Do heroes wake up and say
I’m going to be a hero today?
Or does bravery slip on like a suit
When forced down a dangerous route?

Picture
A Wishful Heart is a collection of poetry

Into Flames and Ash

A kind heart filled with words painted them onto a page

Turning each one into an artwork free from hate and rage

Each one of his words were created out of love, hope, joy and trust

A stunning masterpiece that remained long after the author’s dust to dust

But someone read the poet’s words and despised his wonderful creation

Not understanding that their meaning could connect our divided civilization

So the beautiful pages of rhyme were tossed away like useless trash

A moment of outrage turning a heart full of inspiration into flames and ash

Left Unfinished

All I see in the mirror are my flaws
My anger, my despair, my sheathed claws
The nagging doubts that hang the bars on my cage
And the many hurts which fuels my inner rage
This imperfect reflection taunts me every day
So maybe it will be better if I turn and walk away
I’ll try to pretend I’m not really this blemished
I’m just a work of wonderful art left unfinished

These Scars

These scars I wear proudly and without any shame
They’re living proof that not all of life is a silly game
They are a road map of every struggle I’ve been through
And that with each mountain I climb, I get an even better view

Success’s Sweet Perfume

In my field of dreams and optimistic plans
I have planted what-ifs, reveries and I-cans
I watered them with my blood, sweat and tears
And tilled each row with the jagged edge of my fears
Until one day I stood back and watched them bloom
And smelled the scent of success’s sweet perfume

Picture
Regina Puckett's Complete Book of Poetry has over 400 poems. Such as--

An Acceptance
A beautiful, rainbowed sky
A dainty, floating butterfly
Moments suspended in time
Poems without time or rhyme
Hopes raised but then dashed
Parties planned and then crashed
A life lost waiting to be found
A friend struggling not to drown
A hand extended only to be denied
Tears fallen, accepted and dried

Their Pool of Pandemonium

Each day there are so many challenging choices

So many that I’m left confused by the babbling voices

Each one is shrieking and shouting to do that or this

How will I ever decide which ones to keep or dismiss?

So I’m covering my ears and shutting them all down

Before I fall into their pool of pandemonium and drown

Pass or Fail

I’m coloring outside all of the lines
Refusing to stay within society’s confines
They always believe that they know best
I believe they are much too suppressed
They want us all to fit into a tightly sealed packet
But I’m kicking up the dust and making racket
I’m zigging when zagging was expected and required
I’m disapproving when it’s supposed to be admired
I’m diving into confusion because it needs sorting out
When everyone else is whispering, I’m releasing a shout
Who set up these stupid rules that we so blindly follow
They make no sense and are such a bitter pill to swallow

So why don't you grab your crayons and join me in my quest
To color outside of every line in this world’s pass or fail test

Picture
Mary, Mary

Mary, Mary, how does your garden grow
In this world troubled by so much woe?
Tears rain until they flood the earth’s surface
Pain and hungry distract us from our purpose
Politicians are so busy planting choking weeds
Enjoying the party while the entire world bleeds
Mary, Mary, put away your seeds and run away
And we’ll try to plant a better garden another day

Picture
Picture
Plucked and Tasted

Every day, so I don’t flounder and drown
I plant another daydream into the ground
I stand back and wait for them to take root
Every fantasy a delicate, sprouted shoot
They climb until they become entwined
These exquisite revelations growing inside my mind
But it isn’t until the fruit is plucked and tasted
I know my life wasn’t needlessly wasted

Picture
I Fly Away

I fly away in my dreams and thoughts
Flying backward to my mind’s snapshots
It’s there I linger with my beloved recollections
I walk hand and hand with these lovely reflections
Until reality sharply taps me on the shoulder
Pushing me back to where things are so much colder
But one day I’ll refuse to shred my hard-earned wings
And no one will stop me from flying to where my heart sings
